Deck Post Supports: Essential for Durable Decks

By William AllenMay 7, 2026

Deck post supports, often referred to as ledger boards or post-to-beam connectors, play a pivotal role in the construction and stability of decks. These supports bridge the gap between the deck posts and the house, ensuring a secure and durable connection that can withstand the test of time and the elements.

In the realm of deck construction, post supports are not merely optional accessories; they are essential components that significantly impact the overall integrity and longevity of your deck. Understanding their purpose, types, and installation methods is crucial for homeowners and DIY enthusiasts looking to build or maintain a safe and functional outdoor space.

Understanding Deck Post Supports

Deck post supports serve multiple purposes, making them indispensable in deck construction. Firstly, they provide a secure anchor for the deck posts, preventing them from shifting or moving over time. Secondly, they help distribute the weight of the deck evenly, reducing the stress on individual posts and the house structure. Lastly, post supports create a seamless transition between the deck and the house, enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal.

Types of Deck Post Supports

Several types of deck post supports are available, each designed to cater to different construction methods and materials. The most common types include:
