Ever since the 1970s, Longaberger baskets have been a staple in American homes, known for their high-quality craftsmanship and distinctive design. But with the rise of e-commerce and changing consumer behaviors, many have wondered: "Is Longaberger baskets still in business?" Let's delve into the history and current status of this iconic brand.

The Longaberger Basket Company was founded by Dave Longaberger in 1976, in the small town of Dresden, Ohio. The company gained popularity through its unique marketing strategy, using a 17-story basket-shaped headquarters, and a direct sales model. At its peak, Longaberger employed over 8,000 people and generated hundreds of millions in annual sales.

The Decline and Bankruptcy

In the late 2000s, Longaberger began to face significant challenges. The direct sales model, once a strength, became outdated as consumers shifted towards online shopping. The company's failure to adapt to these changes led to a decline in sales and market share.

In 2017, Longaberger filed for bankruptcy, marking the end of an era for many. The company's iconic basket-shaped headquarters was sold, and it seemed that the Longaberger name would fade into history.

The Phoenix Rise

However, as the saying goes, "what goes down must come up." In 2018, a new company, Longaberger Basket Holdings LLC, purchased the Longaberger brand and intellectual property. This new entity aimed to revive the Longaberger legacy, focusing on e-commerce and wholesale distribution.

Under new management, Longaberger has been working to update its product line, improve its online presence, and expand its distribution channels. The company has also been actively engaging with its loyal customer base, seeking feedback and input to guide its rebirth.

Present Day and Beyond

Today, Longaberger baskets are still very much in business. The company's website offers a wide range of high-quality, handcrafted baskets, along with other home decor items. Longaberger has also expanded its product line to include pet accessories, kitchenware, and even clothing.
