Enhance Your Backyard: Creative Ideas to Surround Above Ground Pool

Enhancing the aesthetics and safety of your above ground pool doesn't mean you have to compromise on functionality. With the right ideas, you can create a beautiful and secure pool surround that complements your home's exterior and provides a welcoming space for relaxation and entertainment. Let's dive into some creative and practical ideas to enhance your above ground pool experience.

First, consider the materials you'll use for your pool surround. Durability, low maintenance, and aesthetics are key factors to keep in mind. Here are some popular options:

Pool Decking Materials

Choosing the right decking material can significantly impact the look and feel of your pool area. Here are two popular options:

Concrete

Concrete is a durable and versatile material that can be stained or stamped to resemble other materials like stone or brick. It's also easy to maintain and provides a smooth, non-slip surface around the pool.

However, concrete can be more expensive than other options and may require more frequent maintenance to prevent cracking and fading.

Composite Decking

Composite decking is made from a combination of recycled plastic and wood fibers, making it eco-friendly and low-maintenance. It's also resistant to rot, insects, and fading, ensuring longevity and minimal upkeep.

Composite decking comes in a variety of colors and styles, allowing you to match or complement your home's exterior. It's also easy to install and can be a cost-effective alternative to concrete or natural wood.

Pool Surround Design Ideas

Once you've chosen your decking material, it's time to consider the design of your pool surround. Here are some creative ideas to enhance your pool area:

Built-in Seating

Incorporating built-in seating around your pool can provide a comfortable space for lounging and socializing. You can create seating areas using benches, built-in concrete seats, or even raised planters with built-in seating.

Built-in seating not only adds functionality but also creates visual interest and defines different zones within your pool area.

Water Features

Adding water features like fountains, waterfalls, or even a small spa can transform your pool area into a serene oasis. Water features can also help to mask noise from nearby traffic or neighbors.

Choose water features that complement your pool's design and fit within your budget. Remember, more complex features may require additional maintenance and upkeep.

Landscaping

Incorporating plants, trees, and flowers into your pool surround can add color, texture, and privacy to your space. Choose plants that thrive in your climate and require minimal maintenance.

Consider creating a lush oasis with tall plants and trees, or opt for a more minimalist look with low-maintenance ground covers and succulents. You can also use plants to create a natural barrier around your pool for added safety.

Lighting

Proper lighting can enhance the beauty of your pool area and ensure safety during nighttime use. Consider installing LED lights in your pool, along your decking, or even in the water for a dramatic effect.

You can also use string lights, lanterns, or solar-powered path lights to create a warm and inviting atmosphere around your pool.

Ultimately, the key to creating a stunning above ground pool surround is to choose materials and design elements that reflect your personal style and complement your home's exterior. With the right ideas and a little creativity, you can transform your pool area into a welcoming and functional space that you'll enjoy for years to come.
