A swag wreath form is an excellent starting point, offering endless customization possibilities. Let's dive into the world of DIY and learn how to make a swag wreath form that's perfect for any season or occasion.

Before we begin, gather your materials. You'll need a grapevine wreath form, floral wire, floral picks or greenery of your choice, scissors, and a hot glue gun with glue sticks. Optional materials include ribbon, ornaments, or other embellishments to add that extra special touch.

Understanding Your Swag Wreath Form

Familiarize yourself with the form by examining its structure. The wire frame should be flexible, allowing you to bend and shape the wreath as needed. The grapevine base provides a sturdy foundation and adds a natural, rustic charm to your finished product.

Shaping Your Swag Wreath Form

One of the most appealing aspects of a swag wreath form is its ability to be shaped. To create a classic swag shape, start by bending the wire frame into a gentle 'C' or 'U' shape. This will form the base of your swag, which can be adjusted and refined as you add greenery and embellishments.

Corner Swag | Holiday Corner Swag | By Dor Designs | Hi, everybody. Happy Friday. Welcome to Door Designs. Today, I'm going to be showing you how to make a corner swag. I'm just going to do one of them on the video but if you do the second one, it's the same way you just reverse the directions. So, I'm going to be showing you how to make it out of this long swag. This is about a 22 inch swag. You can use any swag you want. If you can't find the swag, you can actually buy corner swags but I typically just use just a plain swag to make mine. Um if you a round work wreath form you can cut it and then bend it to where it looks like a frame for a corner swag so let's go ahead and get started so what I'm going to do is I'm actually just going to take this and bend it So we're just going to kind of bend the top so you can kind of see how you've got your shape going to the side. And then what we're going to do is we're going to extend it. And we're going to make it longer. So when you're doing a corner swag which you need to know is how long you want it to be or how full you want it. So you may want this to go like on both sides of a mirror or your door, fireplace, or several different places you can use a corner swag. So right now I'm just going to fluff this a little bit. And we're not going to have to add a lot into this when we get done. Okay, let's get that hang up. I might just take one of these and see if I can use it as an a hanger for right now. Okay, so there's our frame. Looks a little funny right now but we'll get it going. Okay, so what I'm going to do is I want this one to be longer and I want it to go further across the top. I'm also going to add in flocking to kind of bring out a little more dimension to it. So, I'm going to take two pieces of flocking here, two stems. I'm not going to cut them down or anything like that yet. What I'm going to do is I'm actually just going to take it and insert it going up the back of it and attaching it to the form. So, what by doing that, I'm adding about probably six inches to the length. So, let me put this back up here. So, what I'm going to do is I'm just going to use the existing pine times here and I'm going to wrap it around to secure the added piece here. You can hot glue it in if you want but you really don't need to. And this way if you want to change it up next year all you gotta do is unhook them and it comes right out. Okay now we're going to add some more stuff in here so I know it looks a little funny now but just gotta trust me on this. I'm going to do the exact same thing going across the top. Oops. Probably going to get a zip tie and make a little hook real quick. Let me get this secured in there. So all I'm doing is twisting this. Okay so I've probably added about a good six inches going out the top. I'm going to twist this a little bit to my see if this will work as my hook here. Okay. I'm then going to add a little bit of flocking in. So it kind of takes a little bit of flocking all the way up. And once again, I'm just going to kind of wrap it in there. And these were just pieces of flocking that I had used on a prior design. And like I said you can hot glue it in if you want. Okay. I'm next going to take my ribbon and I'm going to start doing a few tails because up here in the corner right up here is where I'm going to put the bow. I've already got the bow made and I did it with just some black and white. I did some black and red with the snowflakes and then I did a black and red and white plaid and then I topped it with a black velvet. And that's going to go right up here. So see how pretty it looks just by putting the bow in it. Let me get my ribbon. So when you're doing these you can make these as full or as elaborate as you want. But this so I kind of had a rustic look to it. With the berries and the pine cones. I'm going to keep it kind of rustic. So I'm going to add some tails. And once again, I'm just going to tie it in Okay, for this bottom piece, I'm going to use a little zip tie because these pintines don't wrap and secure very well. So, I just zip tied it to the base And then we'll cut that off. Okay, I'm going to do the exact same thing going out the length of my corner swag here. I'm going to zip tie that to the base Okay so this is what it looks like just by putting the ribbon through it. And you can add as many ribbons as you want. Like I said I'm going to keep this one more simplistic just because of the type of base I have but you can add ornaments hanging down you can fill ornaments inside of it I think Angel at Holiday Bobbles probably makes some of the prettiest corner swags I've seen. And I know she's got some pictures on her Holiday Bobbles page. They're just gorgeous. Okay, I'm going to go ahead and put the bow in here. Trim some of this a little bit. Okay, we've got our bow on. We're going to add a few more things to it. Nice and full. Okay, so to me, this side looks a little fuller than this side and I want to bring in a little bit of more of red coming down. So, I'm going to take this ribbon and add a tail coming down and going out to the side. So doing this swag is kind of like doing a wreath. Just make it your design however you want it to look. I'm just zip tying this to a pine here. Make this one a little bit shorter. I'm going to do the same thing over here. It's hard to see these green zip ties on these green. Alright, I'm going to add a little bitty red bell right in the center of my bow. Okay, look how easy and fun, whimsical. I have one piece that's too long for me. I've gotta cut this off. It's driving me nuts. Yep, much better. So really all I used was two more stems of the flocked which you don't have to do that. I wanted to extend it. You can extend it with any greenery. And I used one at this end and extended it. And then I put just a few pieces of flocking to kind of take the flocking all the way through the design. And then I did one ribbon tail of the black and white. I did one ribbon tail or half a ribbon tail of the red plaid coming down to tie it in more. We put one bow in and then we did the same thing going out and then I just put a little bell in the middle. Nice and cute. And these are so easy and so much fun. And like I said you can make it any design in a color scheme as elaborate. You can have ornaments hanging down. You can have ornaments hanging down from the bottom. But for this base I thought it looked more little bit more rustic. So that's why I kept it. So I hope you guys enjoy this quick video of this corner swag. If you have any questions leave me you know in the comments. I try to go through them. Although it's been a little crazy but I'm going to try to do a better job now that it's kind of settling down a little bit. So everybody Hope you guys have a great Friday afternoon and I will see you next time. Take care. Buh bye.

For a more dramatic effect, try creating multiple swags or shaping the wire frame into a heart, star, or other festive design. The possibilities are endless, so let your creativity guide you!

Securing Your Swag Wreath Form

Once you've shaped your swag wreath form, it's essential to secure the wire frame in place. This will ensure that your wreath maintains its shape and prevents any unwanted sagging or drooping.

AD

Use floral wire to wrap around the wire frame, securing it at various points along the wreath. You can also use hot glue to reinforce the shape, applying a small amount of glue to the wire frame and pressing it into place. Allow the glue to dry completely before proceeding with the next step.

Adding Greenery and Embellishments

Now that your swag wreath form has been shaped and secured, it's time to bring it to life with greenery and embellishments. Choose seasonal flowers, leaves, or evergreens to create a lush, inviting wreath that reflects your personal style.

Start by attaching larger greenery or floral picks to the wreath using floral wire or hot glue. Distribute these elements evenly throughout the wreath, creating a full, balanced look. Smaller greenery or embellishments can be added last, filling in any gaps and adding texture and dimension to your wreath.

Using Floral Wire for Attachment

Floral wire is an essential tool for attaching greenery and embellishments to your swag wreath form. To use floral wire, wrap it around the stem of your greenery or the base of your embellishment, securing it tightly to the wire frame of your wreath.

Twist the wire several times to ensure a secure hold, then trim any excess wire with scissors. For added security, you can also use hot glue to reinforce the attachment, applying a small amount of glue to the base of the greenery or embellishment and pressing it into place.

Adding Ribbon or Other Embellishments

Ribbon is an excellent way to add a pop of color or a touch of elegance to your swag wreath form. Choose a ribbon that complements your greenery and embellishments, and attach it to the wreath using hot glue or floral wire.

AD

For a simple yet striking look, wrap the ribbon around the wreath in a spiral pattern, securing it in place with hot glue or floral wire as you go. You can also create a bow or use the ribbon to hang your wreath, adding a personal touch that reflects your unique style.

Hanging Your Swag Wreath Form

With your swag wreath form complete, it's time to hang it and showcase your handiwork. There are several ways to hang a wreath, depending on your personal preference and the location you've chosen.

For a door or wall, use a wreath hanger or Command hooks to secure the wreath in place. If you're hanging your wreath on a window or mirror, consider using removable adhesive hooks or suction cups to avoid damaging the surface. For a more rustic look, you can also use a piece of ribbon or twine to hang your wreath from a nail or hook.

Congratulations on creating a beautiful, unique swag wreath form that's perfect for any occasion! Don't be afraid to experiment with different shapes, greenery, and embellishments to make your wreath truly one-of-a-kind. Happy crafting!
