How to Make a Pouf Ottoman Square
Transform your living space into a cozy haven with a DIY pouf ottoman square. Not only is it a stylish addition, but it also serves as extra seating or a footrest. Let's dive into a step-by-step guide to create this versatile piece of furniture.
Before you start, gather your materials: foam, fabric of your choice, scissors, a marker, a needle, and thread. We'll also need a sewing machine for this project. Now, let's get started!
Preparing Your Materials
First, decide on the size of your pouf. We'll use a 24" x 24" foam for this guide. Mark the center point on each side of the foam with your marker.
Next, cut the foam into four equal squares. To do this, connect the center points to create an 'X' on each side. Cut along these lines to create your four squares.
Choosing the Right Fabric
Select a fabric that complements your space. For durability, consider cotton, linen, or a blend. Avoid delicate fabrics like silk or satin, as they may not withstand regular use.
You'll need enough fabric to wrap around each foam square with a 1" overlap on each side. For a 24" foam square, you'll need fabric that's at least 26" x 26".
Cutting the Fabric
Lay your fabric flat and place a foam square on top. Mark the corners of the foam onto the fabric with your marker. Cut out the fabric along these lines, creating a square with a 1" border around the foam.
Repeat this process for the remaining three foam squares. You should now have four fabric squares that are slightly larger than your foam squares.
Sewing the Pouf
Now that you have your fabric and foam squares, it's time to start sewing. Take one fabric square and one foam square, right sides facing each other.
Sew around the edges, leaving a 1" seam allowance. Leave one side open to insert the foam. Once sewn, turn the fabric right side out and insert the foam square. Repeat this process for the remaining three squares.
Assembling the Pouf
Now that all your squares are sewn and stuffed, it's time to assemble them into a pouf. Take two of the squares and place them right sides facing each other. Sew along one side, leaving the other side open.
Repeat this process with the remaining two squares. You should now have two pouches. Place these pouches right sides facing each other and sew along the open sides. Turn the pouf right side out, and you're done!
Finishing Touches
To make your pouf more comfortable, you can add a layer of batting or another layer of foam before sewing the final seam. You can also add piping or trim for a more polished look.
Once you're happy with your pouf, fluff it up and place it in your living room. Enjoy your new piece of furniture that you've created with your own hands!
Now that you've mastered the art of making a pouf ottoman square, why not experiment with different sizes, shapes, or fabrics? The possibilities are endless. Happy crafting!
