How to Create an Event on Discord
Planning a gathering, meeting, or event and want to use Discord as your platform? Discord, initially designed for gamers, has evolved into a powerful communication tool for various communities. Its features like voice channels, text channels, and screen sharing make it an excellent choice for hosting events. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to create an event on Discord.
Before we dive in, ensure you have a Discord server set up. If you don't, you can create one in just a few clicks. Once your server is ready, let's get started with creating your event.
Setting Up Your Event Channel
Discord allows you to create different channels for various topics or purposes. For your event, you'll want a dedicated channel to keep everything organized.
To create a new channel:
- Right-click on the server where you want to add the channel.
- Select "Create Channel" from the dropdown menu.
- Choose the type of channel you want (Text Channel or Voice Channel, depending on your event's needs).
- Give your channel a name and click "Create".
Text Channel for Event Details
A text channel is perfect for sharing event details, updates, and important information. You can use it to post the event's agenda, share links, or answer attendee questions.
To make it clear that this channel is for your event, you can add a description. Right-click on the channel, select "Edit Channel", and add a brief description in the "Channel Description" field.
Voice Channel for Event Discussion
A voice channel is ideal for real-time discussions, presentations, or Q&A sessions. If you're hosting a gaming event, this is where the action will happen.
To make it easy for attendees to join, pin a message in the text channel with a link to the voice channel. Right-click in the channel, select "Pin Message", and create a new message with the link.
Inviting Attendees to Your Event
Now that your event channels are set up, it's time to invite your attendees. You can do this manually or use a bot to automate the process.
To invite someone manually:
- Right-click on the server and select "Invite People".
- Copy the invite link and share it with your attendees.
Using a Bot for Automated Invitations
Bots like Dyno or MEE6 can help automate the invitation process. They can send direct messages to new members with a welcome message and links to your event channels.
To set up a bot:
- Invite the bot to your server using its invite link (you can find this on the bot's website).
- Configure the bot's settings to send welcome messages and channel links to new members.
With your event channels set up and attendees invited, you're ready to host a successful event on Discord. Don't forget to engage with your attendees, encourage discussion, and provide regular updates to keep everyone informed and excited.
