Ever wished to enhance your Anki deck with another deck, combining their content for a more comprehensive learning experience? You’re not alone. Adding a deck to a deck in Anki is a great way to merge two decks into one, allowing you to study both simultaneously. Let’s dive into the process, step by step.
Before we start, ensure you have both decks ready. For this guide, let’s assume you want to add ‘Deck B’ to ‘Deck A’.

Exporting Deck B
First, we need to export Deck B. This will allow us to import it into Deck A later. Here’s how:
1. Open Anki and select Deck B from the deck selection dropdown.
2. Click on ‘Browse’ in the toolbar, then select ‘Export’.
Importing Deck B into Deck A
Now that we have Deck B exported, we can import it into Deck A.

1. Select Deck A from the deck selection dropdown.
2. Click on ‘Browse’ in the toolbar, then select ‘Import’.
3. Navigate to where you saved Deck B’s export file, select it, and click ‘Open’.

Handling Duplicate Cards
If Deck A and Deck B have cards with the same note type, Anki will treat them as duplicates. To avoid this, we need to rename the note types in Deck B before importing.
1. Open Deck B’s export file in a text editor.
2. Find the line that starts with ‘
3. Change the note type to something unique, like ‘DeckB_NoteType’.

Merging the Decks
After importing, Deck B’s cards will appear in Deck A’s browser. However, they’re still separate decks. To merge them:
1. Click on ‘Browse’ in the toolbar, then select ‘Merge’.
2. Select Deck B from the dropdown, then click ‘Merge’.
3. Review the merged deck to ensure all cards are present and functioning correctly.

Congratulations! You’ve successfully added Deck B to Deck A. This merged deck will now appear in your deck selection dropdown, ready for study. Happy learning!
