  • Wood glue
  • Stainless steel or galvanized hardware for hanging bags
  • Drill and driver bits
  • Circular saw or miter saw
  • Tape measure

Designing Your Storage Rack

First, decide on the dimensions of your storage rack. For this project, we'll create a rack that's 72 inches long, 16 inches deep, and 36 inches tall. This size should accommodate most standard golf bags and allow for easy access.

Next, sketch out your design. Our rack will consist of two main supports, a base, and a top shelf. The main supports will be made from the 2x4 boards, while the base and top shelf will be cut from the 4x4 post.

Building the Main Supports

Using your circular saw or miter saw, cut four pieces of 2x4 lumber to 36 inches in length. These will serve as the vertical supports for your rack. Next, cut two pieces of 2x4 lumber to 72 inches in length for the horizontal supports that will connect the vertical pieces.

Assemble the main supports by attaching the vertical pieces to the horizontal pieces using 2.5-inch screws and wood glue. Ensure the supports are square by using a carpenter's square or speed square during assembly. You should now have two identical main supports.

Creating the Base and Top Shelf

Cut two pieces of 4x4 lumber to 72 inches in length for the base of your storage rack. These will provide stability and support for your golf bags. Next, cut two pieces of 4x4 lumber to 68 inches in length for the top shelf, which will give you a place to store additional golf accessories or display trophies.

Adding the Back Support

Cut a piece of 2x4 lumber to 72 inches in length and attach it to the back of your storage rack using 2.5-inch screws and wood glue. This will provide additional support and prevent your golf bags from tipping over.

Installing the Bag Hangers

Measure and mark the locations for your bag hangers. For a standard golf bag, space them about 18 inches apart. Drill pilot holes and attach the hangers using stainless steel or galvanized screws. Ensure the hangers are securely fastened and can support the weight of your golf bags.

If desired, you can also add casters to the bottom of your storage rack for easy mobility. This is particularly useful if you need to move your rack in and out of storage or want to roll it into your garage.
